Many people come to therapy knowing they could do with some support but unsure what to expect from a session.

Counsellors and psychotherapists work in many different ways.

I am trained in the Person-Centred Approach, pioneered by American Psychologist, Carl Rogers. He believed that people are the experts of their own experience and individuals can be supported to uncover what is troubling them and decide how best to address that.

I aim to provide the right conditions within a secure space, for us to work together to explore the issues you bring. I see my role as listening and understanding to the best of my ability what it is like to be you, without any negative judgement of what you tell me. I will not analyse you, or try to offer solutions or advice, but rather I will work in collaboration with you. I trust you will find your own way forward as a result.

The latest research shows that, whatever training the therapist has, one of the most important factors in successful therapy is the client-therapist relationship. I believe strongly this relationship is created between the two of us in the room. I have seen how beneficial a strong and trusting relationship can be. On the other hand, I might not be the right person for you, and that is also fine. I strongly recommend you try more than one therapist before deciding who is the best 'fit' for you.

If you have any questions after reading the above, do feel free to contact me by email, phone or text message.

People often wonder about the difference between counselling and psychotherapy. I am trained in psychotherapy and that is a longer and more in-depth training, but my view is that the terms can be used inter-changeably.
